Last week:
As you may know, I flew down to Anchorage late Wednesday evening for the much anticipated delivery of our daughter Zarina. I have to say...it has been a perfect ending to a long journey. Thank you for your kindness, patience, and understanding this first part of the year. I feel so fortunate to have such a wonderful group of kids and families.

Now comes the easy part, a newborn :)

I was finally able to catch up on grading and completed quarter one report cards last week. They went home on Friday, along with Parent-Teacher Conference reminder letters.

This week:
My family and I will be hitting the road and driving back to Fairbanks tomorrow, so Ms. Erin will be covering the kids with the assistance of Mrs. Coffeen. I will be back on Tuesday.

This Thursday, we will embark on a pumpkin carving adventure in class...We will also be roasting the seeds...yummmmmm. Feel free to come by and enjoy if you are able.  Please send your kiddo in with a pumpkin this week. We will carve as many as we have.

At night, during the Halloween Carnival, our class will need parent volunteers to help with the student designed obstacle course...I will be there, but many hands make for light work. This is a fundraiser for class field trips.

Also Friday...I anticipate that the kids will fill the Marble Jar this week. I also anticipate that they will elect to have a class Halloween Party on Friday afternoon as a class reward...with that said, please send in $5 with your kiddo and I will arrange a pizza party for Friday afternoon. This will cover costs for lunch, snacks, and treats for the kids.

Current Events will continue this week and I will post the schedule in an update to the blog on Tuesday. I also sent the kiddos home with a copy of their chosen date this month.

Please sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences (click on the link) if you haven't already. They are coming up next Monday and Tuesday.

ONGOING INFORMATION
READING LOGS
Reading logs are a regular part of our class. Students will receive "points" for for each day that they read a minimum of 20 minutes at home. The purpose: for students to read each day (not 100 minutes over the weekend or 40 minutes on Tuesday to catch up for Monday).
The logs will be due on a rolling basis and should have dates read on them. I will give credit as they are turned in and filled out correctly (please initial these). The points students receive will be added to their overall reading grade, counting towards their final grade.
It is simple, if students read and turn in their logs, they will see their grade improve significantly while naturally benefiting in fluency and accuracy. If they do not, they will not be given a "0" on the assignment, they simply will not receive any points.
Please look for these to come home this week. I have a yellow folder by the classroom front door filled with new reading logs. Email me with any questions or concerns please.

GOOGLE DRIVE - I will be sending the kiddos home with their specific login information soon
You can access all of your student's digital assignments online and work at home if you would like. Just go to www.gmail.com and type in their email address and password. Then find the Google Menu (where you will find the Drive, Docs, and Slides) icon in the top right corner (it is a nine square grid next to their s-number). This is where they will make their Google Slides Presentation for their Biography Book Reports. It is as follows:

Username: s#@student.k12northstar.org (for example: s123456@student.k12northstar.org)
Password: s#g (for example: s123456g)
